Spirit of 1776 at Five Points Park (July 3). This one leans into community spirit over spectacle — there’s even a “Light Up the Sky” virtual fireworks display for those who want the visual without the real thing. Red, White & Food Truck Festival at UTC (July 3–4). For anyone who plans a holiday weekend entirely around what they’ll eat, this is the one. More than 40 food trucks set up in the parking lot at The Mall at University Town Center, with the Benderson Park fireworks visible from the tailgate-style viewing area once the sun goes down. It runs Friday from 4 to 9pm and Saturday from noon to 9pm — plenty of time to make a full afternoon and evening of it without needing dinner reservations anywhere.
Sarasota Bayfront Fireworks (July 4). Laser Light Nights at The Bishop Museum (July 9–11, then every Thursday through Saturday into September). This one runs all summer and rewards repeat visits — each night features a different music lineup, from classic acts like Queen and The Beatles to pop icons like Taylor Swift, set against a full dome of synchronized laser visuals. It’s less museum stroll and more high-energy night out, with showtimes at 7pm and 9pm and tickets at $15. Worth noting: the lasers and volume are intense, so it’s best suited for older kids and adults rather than a toddler-friendly outing.
Christmas in July in Downtown Venice (July 10–11). A genuinely charming bit of local quirk, Downtown Venice leans all the way into a holiday-in-summer theme, complete with Santa appearances, decorated storefront windows, a trolley, and “Flamingo Elves” scattered throughout the district.
